Jars for cosmetic creams TRANSPARENT | CONTEMPORARY | FORWARD-LOOKING

What it is. Since 2018, the Research, Innovation and Packaging Development experts at [comfort zone] have been working to optimize the primary packaging of the best-selling references of its Sublime skin, Hydramemory, Remedy and Renight facial lines. In the case of the solution entered the objective was to reduce the weight of the jar and use a quota of recycled material, while maintaining the functionality, safety, usability and aesthetics of the packaging itself. The project allowed to optimize logistics and reduce the environmental impact related to incoming transport, with the shift of the production of the vase from Asia to Europe.

Materials. Jar: glass with 42.6% post-consumer recycled glass; cap: PP; Polespan: PE; Safeguard: PS; labels: biobased PE (from sugar cane); case: FSC certified recycled paper.

Product or target market. Creams and oils from the Sublime skin, Hydramemory, Remedy and Renight facial lines.

Design and/or communication. The same aesthetic appeal and functional performance as the virgin material jar has been achieved, albeit using less raw material and a proportion of recycled material.

Technology. In each jar the percentage of virgin raw material used has been reduced, replacing it with 42.6% post-consumer recycled glass. Compared to the previous version, the weight of the jar has decreased from 115 g to 98 g, with a raw material saving of 14.7% (17 g). The modification of the mold of the jar, though without impacting on the aesthetics, has also led to the modification of the PP cap, which now weighs less (from 10g to 7g). The use of water-based in place of solvent-based coatings has a lower environmental impact.

Sustainability. The packaging components are easily separable and can therefore be channelled into the correct material collection and recycling flow, thus enabling a virtuous end-of-life.
